BA COLLECTION

"Victorian Vaudeville"

my graduate collection, titled "victorian vaudeville," began as a love letter to my favorite time period in fashion: the victorian era--an era I always turn to for inspiration.

I am infatuated with burlesque costumes, such as those worn at The Moulin Rouge and similar shows in France.

After doing research into the history of these shows, I discovered they originated from performances titled "vaudevilles."

ballet was a source of inspiration for me, as I studied it for a majority of my life. It is a beautiful art form, and I tried to embody the same beauty and grace ballerinas show.

Lastly, I found inspiration in my favorite designer: John Galliano. I specifically drew inspiration from his SS98 collection for Dior titled "In a Boudoir Mood."

Sustainability is my first priority when designing. As a result, my collection is made entirely from second-hand materials. Most of my textiles were found at local thrift stores, and some pieces were scrap fabric graciously donated by a local bridal boutique in my university's hometown.
