INDIGO

my second semester junior year assignment was to create a zero waste pattern look. i began with white 100% cotton denim and shabori dye it in an indigo vat.

we had to create a pattern that fit perfectly on the fabric, like a puzzle. this requirement created a lot of limitations in the design process.

because of this being a zero waste pattern, the pattern pieces had to all be squares; there were no curves or cut outs. what i had designed in my head and my prototype did not match whatsoever. in order to be more satisfied with my design i needed to cut strips off and i did so, but had to figure out a way to incorporate the scraps into my design.

i created denim boot covers made with scraps of my fabric and scraps of denim accumulated in our sewing studio at school.
